Lt. Col. Jeff Stewart, commander, 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, administers the oath of enlistment to a group of soldiers from his unit, March 1, 2012. Whenever a soldier enlists in the U.S. Army, be it their first or a subsequent tour of duty, the soldier takes an oath affirming they will “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic,” and that they “will obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the orders of the officers appointed over [them].”
