190522-N-UM706-0089 RED SEA (May 22, 2019) Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Paul Medlin, assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94), shoots the shot line during a replenishment-at-sea with the fleet replenishment oiler USNS Big Horn (T-AO 198). Nitze is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet areas of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
