Pvt. Quinton Standish pulls security behind a .50 cal at the 145th Brigade Support Battalion’s brigade support area at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, June 2, 2019. The 145th BSB, headquartered in Lewiston and part of the Army National Guard’s 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team, is completing an NTC rotation May 24 – June 20 to build unit readiness and increase Soldier proficiency in key warfighting functions.
Standish, an 88M motor transportation operator from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, enlisted into the Idaho Army National Guard three years ago because he wanted to serve his country and pursue his civilian education.
“I want to be able to say I did something for my country and to make my son proud of me,” he said.
Standish, 22, said he has traveled more in the past three years than he did in his entire life before joining the Idaho Army National Guard. Last year he used the State Education Assistance Program to earn his commercial driver’s license. He currently drives a water truck for a civilian company and wants to get two years of experience driving large trucks before finding work as a snow plow operator in Northern Idaho.
