190604-N-XK398-1185 SATTAHIP NAVAL BASE, Thailand (June 4, 2019) The Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Pioneer (MCM 9) departs Sattahip Naval Base for a mine hunting training exercise with the Royal Thai Navy as part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Thailand 2019. This year marks the 25th iteration of CARAT, a multinational exercise series designed to enhance U.S. and partner navies’ abilities to operate together in response to traditional and non-traditional maritime security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
