Tuscaloosa, Ala., native Capt. James H. Kervin II, 27, the assistant plans officer for 1169th Engineer Group, poses with Col. Randal G. Martin, the group commander, after receiving the Bronze Star Medal during an end of tour ceremony inside the cavalry stables on Camp Liberty, Aug. 24. The award was presented to Kervin for exceptionally meritorious service, outstanding performance of duties and instrumental contributions to the overall success of the 1169th. The 1169th, an Army National Guard unit out of Huntsville, Ala., supported all combat engineer missions of Multi-National Division – Baghdad from November 2006 to September 2007. Over the year, the 1169th conducted more than 1800 engineer missions, resulting in the construction of 27 coalition outposts, 26 joint security stations, five safe neighborhoods and three markets.
