More than $800,000 in mission-essential gear was backhauled through internal resources, vice the alternative of having the equipment shipped to the unit via government-contracted assets, in which the Marine Corps would accrue freight and fuel costs. Marine Corps Logistics Command furnished the surplus gear at no cost.
