Leadership with the 24th Special Operations Wing and family members of U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. William “Bill” Schroeder unveil Schroeder’s name on the Special Tactics Training Squadron annex building during a building dedication ceremony at Hurlburt Field, Florida, June 21, 2019. The STTS annex building formerly housed the 10th Combat Weather Squadron preceding its inactivation in May 2014. Schroeder, a Special Operations Weather Officer, was the final commander of the squadron prior to his command of the 342nd Training Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Schroeder was fatally wounded when he placed himself between an armed individual and members of his squadron, allowing them to escape unharmed, in April 2016.
