U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Jacob Shotwell hugs his son Cooper Shotwell and his daughter Carolyn Shotwell July 2, 2019, at Coast Coast Guard Base Alameda, California. Jacob is a crew member aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf, which returned from a 164-day patrol in the Western Pacific. The Bertholf crew patrolled and enforced United Nations Security Council Resolution Sanctions against North Korea by monitoring and gathering intelligence on vessels conducting ship-to-ship transfers in the East China, South China and Yellow Seas.
