A World War II veteran renders honors during a ceremony at the World War II Memorial, Washington, D.C., July 10, 2019. During the ceremony, Soldiers with the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) participate in a Joint Armed Forces Color Guard in support of Honor Flight Chicago at the World War II Memorial, Washington, D.C. An Honor Flight is conducted by non-profit organizations dedicated to transporting as many United States military veterans as possible to see the memorials in D.C. of the respective war they fought in at no cost to the veterans. Prior to the event, Colin Powell, retired four-star Army general and former United States Secretary of State, spoke to more than 100 veterans, sharing his appreciation for their service.
