Sgt. Eric Sutton explains the importance of the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program during the Battles Won Academy at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, July 12, 2019. Sutton is a martial arts instructor trainer at the Marine Corps Martial Arts Center of Excellence. The Battles Won Academy is a part of the Marine Corps’ Semper Fidelis All-American Program, which recognizes young men and women who excel in athletics, but have also shown themselves to be leaders in the classroom and in their communities. Nearly 100 high school student-athletes were selected to attend the academy, which runs through July 14 and focuses on developing their self-confidence, discipline, teamwork, and honing the fighting spirit that embodies the Marine Corps.
