Volunteers and staff members with the Hampton Roads Naval tour the 5th floor of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s Building One. The original building opened in 1830, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The fifth floor of historic building was originally home to the operating room and morgue; and provided a unique photo opportunity for a guided tour of the building provided by Head Librarian Jane Pellegrino. Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is the US Navy’s oldest continuously operating hospital, and is situated on the Portsmouth, Virginia waterfront across the Elizabeth River from the Hampton Roads Naval Museum.
