Fijian Army Maj. Mikaele Wara (left), who serves as D Company commander, 3rd Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment, shakes hands with U.S. Capt. Douglas Richardson, who serves as commander of B Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Brigade Combat Team at Nadi International Airport, July 27. The two commanders will be engaged in a bilateral field training exercise called Exercise Cartwheel, which will be conducted on the island of Vanua Levu, from July 29 - August 12. The military relationship between the U.S. and Fiji is strong, and is based on mutual respect and cooperation. Combined bilateral training provides ready land forces capable of conducting full spectrum multinational operations to prevent, mitigate and respond to transnational and regional threats.
