U.S. Army South personnel observe Holocaust Remembrance Day in a ceremony held at the headquarters unit April 19. The Equal Opportunity led event featured a "Why We Remember" video, partial Holocaust names reading ceremony, stories of rescue and poems from the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a systematic and state-sponsored persecution and murder of approximately 6 million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. "Holocaust" is a word of Greek origin meaning "sacrifice by fire." Congress established the Days of Remembrance as the annual commemoration of the Holocaust.
