BMCS Roger Harding shares a laugh with one of the Victory Belles, performers at the D-Day museum in New Orleans, during the 1812 commemoration Gala, April 20. Senior Chief Harding is embarked on the USS Wasp. Wasp is in New Orleans, April 17-23, to celebrate Navy Week New Orleans - a Bicentennial of the War of 1812 commemorative event. Approximately 3,000 sailors and Marines, nine ships from the United States, France, Canada, Great Britain, Ecuador, and Indonesia, and about three dozen aircraft are involved in the Navy Week events. The commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is a salute to all sailors and Marines who fought gallantly in that conflict, who have served in out nations' conflicts since then, and who are defending freedom around the world today.
