JOINT BASE CAPE COD, Mass. – A Soldier from the 1166th Transportation Company, Massachusetts National Guard, engages a target during a base defense live-fire exercise during the Combined Arms Exercise: Patriot Crucible on Camp Edwards, here August 4, 2019. The Soldiers of the 1166th participated in several iterations of this training event without ammunition and with blank ammunition in order to hone their skills in tactical maneuvers and fire. Patriot Crucible is an intense two-week field exercise preparing army combat support units from across the North East United States to support major combat operations against a modern and professional enemy force.
