(Aug. 6, 2019) Dr. JihFen Lei, deputy director for research, technology and laboratories in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, offers remarks during the opening ceremonies for the First Annual National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship Program conference in San Diego, California. The NDSEG Fellowship is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Army Research Office, and the Office of Naval Research under the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. Since 1989, NDSEG has awarded nearly 3,600 fellowships to U.S. citizens and nationals who pursue a doctoral degree in one of fifteen supported disciplines at a U.S. institution of their choosing.
