Lt. Col. Gerald K. Melson, commander of the Ohio National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, speaks at the unit’s welcome home ceremony Aug. 10, 2019, at the Landmark Church in Cincinnati. The unit completed a successful deployment to the Washington, D.C. area where the 1-174th played a pivotal role in supporting the National Capitol Region-Integrated Air Defense System mission, providing personnel support to the ongoing homeland defense mission, which included the use of radar, ground-based air defense systems and communications equipment.
