After retreat plays and after the flag is lowered, 13th’s ESC’s Color Guard neatly and ceremoniously folds the flag before it is inspected. Once used to signal orders to service members on the battlefield and on bases, today retreat is played during ceremonies and at specific times on each military installation signaling the end of the duty day.
