Jane E. (Edwards) Bieze (center) is shown is shown with fellow Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) after they completed their WASP training in the 1940s in Wichita, Kan. Her son, Jim Bieze, said his mom was a big influence in his life and his decision to serve. As a member of the famed WASP organization, Jane ferried airplanes all across the United States from Wichita during World War II. Tragically, she died in April 1969 while her son was on his second tour in Vietnam. Jim credits the Army and the rest of the military as well as a World War II military veteran taxi cab driver for getting him back to the United States quickly from Vietnam so he could be with his father for his mother's funeral. Jim Bieze retired Aug. 31, 2019, with 47 years of federal service that includes military and military civilian service time. Bieze completed two tours in Vietnam and achieved sergeant major rank in the Army. He also worked as a human resources specialist with Fort McCoy from 1998-2019. Bieze is a resident of Bangor, Wis., and a native of Bedford, Ind. (Courtesy photo)
