Officer candidates carry a log during the Montford Point Challenge at Officer Candidates School aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, August 7, 2019. The Montford Point Challenge is ran to remember the heroic actions and sacrifices that were made by African American Marines who, from 1942 to 1949, were segregated from white recruits and received basic training at Montford Point, a facility at Camp Lejeune, N. C. The mission of Officer Candidates School is to educate and train officer candidates in Marine Corps knowledge and skills within a controlled and challenging environment in order to evaluate and screen individuals for the leadership, moral and physical qualities required for commissioning as a Marine Officer.
