JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 23, 2019) – Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class James Pisciotto (right), a sailor participating in Navy Medicine’s Hospital Corpsman Trauma Training, discusses ventilator settings with Patrick Nobles, a registered nurse at UF Health Jacksonville, on Aug. 23. Sixteen hospital corpsmen from across the Navy received two weeks of specialized training at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, followed by five weeks at UF Health Jacksonville (a Level I trauma center). Pisciotto, a native of Morristown, New Jersey, will be assigned to a Marine unit at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. “This is a great platform for us to see real-life trauma patients and work alongside exceptional nurses and doctors. I’m going with the Marines next, and I don’t want to see trauma for the first time on the battlefield. I want to be counted on.” The corpsmen, who have already served one tour at a military treatment facility, are then assigned to operational units across the globe. The clinical rotations provide enhanced real-world trauma experience for Navy hospital corpsmen, who provide life-saving care to sailors and Marines in the field. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Jacksonville (co-located with NH Jacksonville) delivers a ready medical force, in support of Department of Defense missions around the globe.
