John P. Murtha Replenishment at Sea

190817-N-NB544-1008 GULF OF ADEN (Aug. 17, 2019) Quartermaster 3rd Class Robert Humphery uses a stadimeter to gauge the distance between the amphibious transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) and the fleet replenishment oiler USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO 199) prior to a replenishment-at-sea. John P. Murtha is currently on its first deployment and part of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit team and is deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operation in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
