U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. A. J. Van Fredenberg, a combat mass communicator with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, is promoted to sergeant during a promotion ceremony at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif. September 4, 2019. “It’s an honor to wear these chevrons,” said Van Fredenberg. “I can only hope to live up to what it means to be a Sergeant of Marines.” The California-based 13th MEU is a scalable, and highly capable Marine Air Ground Task Force, designed to rapidly respond to a wide-range of military operations around the globe.
