U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawks take off for a joint aerial patrol of the security mechanism zone with Turkish military helicopters in northeast Syria, Sept. 5, 2019. The security mechanism is intended to address Turkish security concerns, maintain security in northeast Syria so ISIS cannot reemerge, and allow the Coalition to remain focused on achieving the enduring defeat of ISIS.
