Commander of U.S. Army Japan, Maj. Gen. Viet Luong shook hands with the commander of the Western Army Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, Lt. Gen. Takashi Motomatsu during the Orient Shield 2019 opening ceremony. Orient Shield is an annual bilateral exercise designed to enhance Japan-U.S. combat readiness and interoperability while strengthening bilateral relationships and demonstrating U.S. resolve to support the security interests of friend and allies in the region.
