Ensign George Bonebright, the Gunnery Officer aboard the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22), points out his great uncle's name at the USS San Diego (CL 53) memorial. Bonebright joined other San Diego sailors for a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial on the memorial's dedication anniversary. The memorial in downtown San Diego was dedicated April 30, 2004 to commemorate the sailors aboard the World War II vessel. San Diego is the fourth ship named for the city and the first to be homeported in her namesake. The ship is the sixth in the San Antonio class and will be commissioned in San Diego on May 19.
