190907-N-UR565-0025 CRETE, Greece (Sept. 7, 2019) A traffic police officer from the town of Chania,
Crete, ensures a safe run during the 18th Annual Eco-Challenge held Sept. 7, 2019, on Crete’s Akrotiri
Peninsula. Naval Support Activity Souda Bay hosts the Eco‐Challenge, an outdoor sports competition
that builds camaraderie and strengthens the relationship with NATO and Hellenic military partners. Teams of five competed in five different timed activities (16K run, 10K hike to include 15 percent of the hiker’s body weight, 40K bike, 6K kayak and 2,000 meter swim). NSA Souda Bay is an operational ashore base that enables U.S., allied, and partner nation forces to be where they are needed and when they are needed to ensure security and stability in Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia.
