Gear is left behind by firefighters from the 158th Fighter Wing, Vermont Air National Guard and the South Burlington Fire Department, as they climb the stairs of a six story parking garage tower to mark the 78th floor of the south tower, highest point firefighters reached on 9/11 which took the lives of 343 firefighters among the 2,977 total victims, Burlington International Airport, South Burlington, Vt., Sept. 11, 2019. To reach victims as quickly as possible, it is known that firefighters would leave behind equipment while making their way up the towers as it became more strenuous.
