HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 13, 2019)— Chief Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Equipment) Ignacio Arbildi, one of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington’s (CVN 73) newest chief petty officers, receives his anchors during a chief petty officer pinning ceremony, Sept. 13, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Virginia. George Washington is undergoing refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a nearly four-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repairs, upgrades, and modernization.
