U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Samantha Pinon, assigned to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), rings America's Freedom Bell during a National POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony, hosted by DPAA at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii, Sept. 20, 2019. First established in 1979 through a proclamation from President Jimmy Carter, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is an observance to honor and recognize the sacrifices of those Americans who have been a POW, and to remind the nation of those who are still MIA. DPAA is conducting worldwide operations to provide the fullest possible accounting of those classified as still missing. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Rusty Frank)
