A U.S. Army Paratrooper assigned to Legion Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade supervises an in-processing checkpoint while conducting Noncombatant Evacuation Operations during Exercise Saber Junction 19 (SJ19) in Hohenfels Training Area, Germany, Sept. 20, 2019.
NEOs are conducted by the Department of Defense to assist in evacuating U.S. citizens and nationals, DOD civilian personnel, and designated persons and third-country nationals whose lives are in danger from locations in a foreign nation to an appropriate safe haven when directed by the Department of State.
SJ19 is an exercise involving nearly 5,400 participants from 16 ally and partner nations at the U.S. Army's Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels Training Areas, Sept. 3 to Sept. 30, 2019. SJ19 is designed to assess the readiness of the U.S. Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade to execute land operations in a joint, combined environment and to promote interoperability with partnering allies and partner nations.
