Command Master Chief Rafael Perez looks through the big eyes on the starboard bridge wing of the amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) during its transit of the Suez Canal on its first operational deployment. New York is part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group with embarked elements of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (24th MEU). New York is deployed supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
