Jordan Deraitus, a technical engineer specialist with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 and Cornell, Wis., native, ensures the new helicopter landing zone (HLZ) site in southwestern Afghanistan is level May 4. The HLZ will make the movement of personnel in and out of the outpost, as well as the delivery of supplies, safer and more efficient.
