Captain Michael A. Perkins, officer-in-charge, 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company Detachment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, establishes communications with aircraft, which will provide close air support, on top of an observation post, in the Chocolate Mountains, Calif., May 11. The training scenario involved his team conducting close air support operations when they requested assistance from the Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel Platoon over the radio, after they received contact from a notional local enemy attack force. The training was conducted to increase the competency of the TRAP force and as a part of the ground portion of Realistic Urban Training, which the 15th MEU is conducting in preparation for their deployment scheduled for this fall. Perkins, 36, is from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
