As part of a ceremony aboard Coast Guard Cutter Munro (WMSL 755), Petty Officer 1st Class Dezaray Kuemmerle reads the condolence letter written to the family of Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro after he was killed evacuating beleaguered Marines during the invasion of Guadalcanal 77 years ago today, Sept. 27, 2019. Munro, for whom the cutter is named, was nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor by legendary Marine Corps Lt. Gen.
