Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class April Simpson demonstrates her ability to defend herself against a simulated attacker, Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class David Lutz, after suffering the blinding effects of being sprayed with oleoresin capsicum spray during a security force qualification exercise on the flight deck of the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52). Pearl Harbor and embarked Marines assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit are deployed as part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group that is in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
