PELELIU, Republic of Palau – The Honorable Temmy Shmull, Governor of Peleliu State Government, the Honorable Raynold Oilouch, Vice President of Palau, U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Robert Castellvi, commanding general, 1st Marine Division, and Amy Hyatt, U.S. Ambassador to Palau, reveal the new memorial during the 75th Commemoration of the Battle of Peleliu, Sept. 28, 2019. The Battle of Peleliu established the relationship between Palau and the United States that paved the way for the liberation of Palau. The Marine Corps, joined by other U.S. branches and foreign service members, held a ceremony in honor of the battle with Maj. Gen. Robert Castellvi, commanding general, 1st Marine Division.
