Soldiers from Regional Command East attended a Counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems class Aug. 20 - 23, 2019, on Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo. Throughout the class, Soldiers learn to identify various UAS and familiarize themselves with the C-UAS tools and technology available to them. A portion of the class is devoted to the Spectre C-UAS virtual reality trainer, which allows Soldiers to navigate simulations of potential UAS threats.

U.S Army Spc. Aaron Smith is an air defense battle management system operator with RC-E and also a student in the class.

"As an air defender, I feel it's especially useful to know what friendly aircraft look like and how they operate, compared to potential threat aircraft," Smith said. "To protect the KFOR mission and to help us do our job better, it behooves us to learn about these [potential threat] systems to make ourselves more vigilant and more aware. If they do interfere with us or the people of Kosovo, we can respond."
