U.S. Army Capt. Chaplain Marc Lhowe, from Task Force Aviation, joined Hungarian Defense Forces 2nd Lt. Chaplain Horvath Kornel and Austrian Armed Forces Col. Chaplain Martin Steiner for a chaplain summit Sept. 12, on Camp Marechal De Lattre De Tassigny, Kosovo. The purpose of the summit was to increase familiarization and goodwill among the multinational chaplains.
“It’s nice to be able to talk to like-minded individuals,” Lhowe said. “We all have a calling from God. We’re all here to serve Soldiers. It’s nice to be able to relate and bond with each other and find out that there’s not much difference just because our language or nationality is different – we go through the same struggles.”
Lhowe said that ministry is taxing, but being able to speak with other chaplains and religious representatives is therapeutic and eye-opening.
“I love spending time with chaplains from other nations,” he said. “We can build a bridge between our different cultures, and we find out that the world isn’t as large as we seem to think. Even religions have a lot have a lot more similarities than we think.”
