The Coast Guard Cutter Valiant refuels in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, during their 8-week counter-drug patrol in the Eastern Pacific. While on patrol in support of Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-S), the Valiant crew had three separate drug interdictions: a self-propelled semi-submersible (SPSS), a fishing vessel, and a go-fast vessel. In total approximately 16,000 lbs of cocaine were seized, worth over $218 million, and 11 suspected narcotics traffickers were apprehended.
