    The Southport Channel Precision Directional Light (PDL) Range displays white, red and green sector lights that enable mariners to determine where they are in a channel. The Coast Guard established the radio-controlled, solar-powered PDL range at the entrance to the Cape Fear River to help guide larger post-Panamax ships out of Wilmington, N.C.
