MCGREGOR RANGE, New Mexico - 2nd Lt. Michael Preston, an armor officer assigned to 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division and a native of Carmel, Indiana, fires an M17 pistol during a pistol qualification range, October 10. Soldiers from 3ABCT were the first in 1AD to field and fire the newly adopted M17, ensuring that they remain ready and proficient in their weapons skills. The full-sized M17 and the compact M18 pistols comprise the Modular Handgun System, a weapons system that replaces the M9 and M11 pistols and offers an improved ergonomic design and a lighter weight to provide increased lethality among Soldiers.
