191015-N-YI115-1011 PACIFIC OCEAN (Oct. 15, 2019) An MQ-8B Fire Scout, assigned to the “Wildcards” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23, prepares to land on the flight deck of Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10). Gabrielle Giffords is on a rotational deployment to Southeast Asia and is the fifth LCS to deploy to the region. Fast, agile and networked surface combatants, LCS are optimized for operating in near-shore environments, yet fully capable of open ocean operations.
