U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Robert Navarro and members of the Philippine Marine assemble a .50-Cal Browning heavy machine gun before live fire training during exercise KAMANDAG 3 at Colonel Ernesto P. Ravina Air Base, Philippines, Oct. 14, 2019. KAMANDAG helps participating forces maintain a high level of readiness and responsiveness, and enhances combined military-to-military relations, interoperability, and multinational coordination. Navarro, a native of Escondido, Calif., is an infantry unit leader with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment. KAMANDAG is an acronym for the Filipino phrase “Kaagapay Ng Mga Manirigma Ng Dagat,” which translates to “Cooperation of the Warriors of the Sea,” highlighting the partnership between the U.S. and Philippine militaries.
