Gunner’s Mate 1st Class Timothy Hernandez, from Santa Rita, Guam, conducts routine maintenance on a MK 15 Mod 31 SEARAM aboard Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10). Gabrielle Giffords is on a rotational deployment to INDOPACOM and is the fifth LCS to deploy to the region. Fast, agile and networked surface combatants, LCS are optimized for operating in near-shore environments, yet fully capable of open ocean operations.
