An L-130 "Skibird" assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing takes off from Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia, N.Y. on Monday, October 28, 2019 en route to McMurdo Station, Antarctica. The trip will take approximately one week. The 109th, which supports the U.S. Antarctic Program each year as part of the military's Operation Deep Freeze, will deploy five aircraft to Antarctica.
