Elena Chavez, an infantry officer from Kansas City, Missouri, assigned to 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, rushes to cover during an Expert Infantryman Badge move under direct fire lane at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Oct. 28, 2019. She was one of two female infantry officers to earn the coveted “True Blue” status when she completed every event to the standard. “At every station I had a memory from the three weeks of training,” Chavez said. “We knew what we were doing - we’ve been doing it for a month.”
