Spc. Michael Thomson, a member of the 1049th Transportation Company, holds the company guidon high as he steps off the plane carrying more than 150 of his fellow Delaware National Guard soldiers. Thomson and the rest of the 1049th arrived at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan. They were greeted by the state’s Gov. Jack Markell and senior leaders from the Delaware National Guard, including the adjutant general, Maj. Gen. Francis D. Vavala.
