U.S. Navy Capt. Jon Grant (center right), commanding officer of Naval Support Facility Redzikowo(NSFR) participated in the annual Polish Independence Day commemoration ceremony at the town hall building in Słupsk, Poland, Mon., Nov. 11, 2019. Poland gained its independence in 1918, after 123 years of partitions by Austria-Hungary, Germany, and Russia. Sailors marched in the pass and review parade and the command leadership laid a wreath at the statue at the town square with their Polish military counterparts from the Force Protection Battalion. Participation in community relations events are an important aspect of being stationed in Poland and demonstrates a continued effort to build strong partnerships with local officials and citizens in the surrounding regions.
