Each competitor in the 2019 Fort Benning Multi-gun Challenge at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia, is being followed by a supervisor who is timing how fast they can compete each of the 12 stages. Staff Sgt. Alex Aitken, is just one of the many competitors competing in the challenge, but only one of six National Guard Soldiers on the National Guard Action Shooting Team who are all at the event. Aitken, a resident of Charleston, Illinois, is on the Illinois Small Arms Readiness Training Section as a marksmanship trainer. He and the rest of the National Guard are testing their skill with different weapons and the speed they can fire those weapons and how fast they can reload, against other service members and civilian competitors.
